The scroll saw from Harbor Freight is acutally a pretty good tool if you want to do almost any kind of work. If you are a hobbyist and will use this for a few hours a week, go for it. It uses pinned blades AND non pinned blades. They include the adapters in the box to use non pinned blades.

Jan 16, 2015 I would not invest any more cash in the Harbor Freight scroll saw. I had one, and it did not work so I sent it back. They sent me another and I used it 6-7 times and the speed controller died. So I then quit scrolling for a few years and eventually bought a DeWalt.

Ive seen reviews for Deltas, Dremels, Ryobis, Craftsman, and found some off-brands on eBay, such as Elkhart and Rand. Even looked at the Harbor Freight Central Machinery.

People really into scrolling swear by Hawk saws. I dont know, I guess my Delta is OK. The other thing folks who are really into scroll saws swear by is Flying Dutchman scroll saw blades. A Hawk saw might be out of your reach, but you can probably afford to buy some Flying Dutchman blades and give them a shot in your saw.
Dec 31, 2009 I have seen a conversion kit at Sears, I bought one for my first scroll saw which was one from Harbor Freight co...the kit did work, but I think I ended up buying a longer screw from the hardware store to make it work. Im pretty sure Sears still carries the kit, I believe I paid about 20.00 for it
