Oct 24, 2016 Much like the museum found at Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino, CA, visitors at OSH get an unvarnished story of life at one of the nations most notorious mental health institutions. The museum also spotlights how treatments changed over time. Early on, moral treatment emphasized a wholesome environment and moral influence of staff.
The purpose of the OSH Museum of Mental Health is to provide the opportunity for citizens to learn, through artifacts and stories, an awareness of and connection to the people who have lived and worked at Oregon mental hospitals in order that we may challenge the stereotypes and stigmas that burden discussion of mental illness.
